The 2026 timeline (and why it matters for 2027)
WBJEE 2026 ran on a shifted schedule compared to older cycles: notification on 6 March 2026, online registration opening 10 March 2026 (the closing day and the short correction window that followed are reported inconsistently — see Flags), admit cards from 15 May 2026, and the examination on 24 May 2026, with the answer key following within days and results in June 2026. Older WBJEEs were April exams with December–January forms; 2026 broke that pattern. The lesson for 2027 candidates is blunt: do not build your preparation calendar around "the usual date." Wait for the WBJEEB notification on wbjeeb.nic.in and lock dates only when the Board publishes them.
Who is eligible
- Citizenship: Indian citizen or OCI.
- Age: At least 17 years as of 31 December of the exam year (for WBJEE 2026: born on or before 31 December 2009). There is no upper age limit for most courses, except Marine Engineering, capped at 25 years as of 31 December of the exam year.
- Qualification: Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board.
- Subjects and marks (engineering): Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, plus one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application / Technical Vocational subjects — with at least 45% aggregate in the three subjects taken together (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD), and at least 30% marks in English. Pharmacy has its own subject combination (Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics/Biology) in the bulletin.
- Domicile: Not required to sit the exam or for general seats, but West Bengal domicile matters for reserved-category seats and for certain government-institute benefits — the bulletin spells out the domicile proformas, and claiming a reserved seat without valid domicile proof is a common counselling-stage rejection.
Exam pattern — 200 marks, two papers, three categories
Pattern below is the confirmed WBJEE 2026 cycle — the latest confirmed. The WBJEE 2027 bulletin is not out yet and will govern.
WBJEE is a full day: Paper 1 (Mathematics) — 2 hours, 100 marks, then Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry combined) — 2 hours, 100 marks, both OMR-based MCQs. The distinctive part is the three question categories. Category 1: one correct option, +1 mark, −0.25 for a wrong answer. Category 2: one correct option, +2 marks, −0.5 for wrong. Category 3: one or more correct options, +2 marks for a fully correct response (partial credit rules as per the bulletin), and no negative marking. The syllabus is the Class 11–12 West Bengal board/equivalent syllabus for the three subjects — the Board publishes the detailed syllabus in the information bulletin, and it is worth downloading because WBJEE's mathematics weight is heavier than most state CETs.
Application fee (2026 cycle)
The fee is category- and gender-differentiated: General male ₹500, General female ₹400, General third gender ₹300; SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS/PwD/TFW male ₹400, female ₹300, third gender ₹200. Fees are non-refundable and paid online by net banking, debit/credit card, UPI, or QR code.
How to apply, step by step
- Go to wbjeeb.nic.in, open the WBJEE section, and click New Registration. Enter your name, father's and mother's names, and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 certificate — these fields cannot be changed later, even in the correction window.
- Register with a unique, working email ID and mobile number; all Board communication goes there.
- Fill the application: domicile, category, PwD/TFW status, and academic details.
- Upload images to spec: a recent colour photograph (JPG/JPEG, 10–200 KB) and your signature (4–30 KB). Out-of-spec uploads are the most common technical rejection.
- Pay the fee online and download the Confirmation Page — its generation is the proof your application actually completed. No printed or postal forms are accepted; the process is online only.
Documents to keep ready
Class 10 certificate (age proof), Class 12 marksheet or appearing certificate, category certificate if claiming reservation, domicile certificate/proforma if claiming state benefits, PwD or TFW certificate if applicable, plus the scanned photograph and signature above. For counselling you will need the same set in original — discrepancies between form data and originals are resolved against you.
What to do next
Until the 2027 notification appears, your work is syllabus and past papers — WBJEE rewards speed and accuracy in its three-category format, and the category-3 partial-credit logic is worth practising deliberately. Watch wbjeeb.nic.in for the notification (not coaching-site "expected date" tables), and when registration opens, apply early and treat the short correction window as an emergency tool, not a second chance to fill the form.

Frequently asked questions
Has the WBJEE 2027 notification been released?
No. The 2027 bulletin has not been published yet, so every date and fee on this page is the completed WBJEE 2026 cycle, labelled as such. Watch wbjeeb.nic.in for the Board's notification rather than coaching-site expected-date tables.
When was the WBJEE 2026 exam held?
The 2026 cycle ran with notification on 6 March 2026, online registration opening 10 March 2026, admit cards from 15 May 2026, and the examination on 24 May 2026, with the answer key following within days and results in June 2026.
What marks do I need in Class 12 to be eligible for WBJEE engineering?
Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, plus one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science, Computer Application or a Technical Vocational subject, with at least 45% aggregate in the three subjects taken together — 40% for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD — and at least 30% marks in English. You must be at least 17 years old as of 31 December of the exam year.
What is the WBJEE exam pattern?
Two OMR-based papers of 100 marks each: Paper 1 (Mathematics) for 2 hours, then Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry combined) for 2 hours. Questions fall in three categories — Category 1 (+1, −0.25), Category 2 (+2, −0.5) and Category 3 (+2 for a fully correct response, with no negative marking).
How much is the WBJEE application fee?
In the 2026 cycle: General male ₹500, General female ₹400, General third gender ₹300; SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/EWS/PwD/TFW male ₹400, female ₹300, third gender ₹200. Fees are non-refundable and paid online.
Is West Bengal domicile required to appear in WBJEE?
No — domicile is not required to sit the exam or for general seats. It matters for reserved-category seats and for certain government-institute benefits, and claiming a reserved seat without valid domicile proof is a common counselling-stage rejection.
