KEAM 2027: the Kerala entrance that matters — and its current status
If you are targeting an Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture or allied-medical seat in Kerala, the examination that decides your rank is KEAM — and the honest status right now is that the KEAM 2027 notification has not been released. What follows is everything real about how this examination works, drawn from the 2026 cycle run by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) Kerala, so that when the 2027 prospectus drops you will know exactly what to look for and what to do.
What KEAM is and who conducts it
KEAM — the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical entrance examination — is a state-level test conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala, through the official portal cee.kerala.gov.in. It is the gateway to professional undergraduate programmes in Kerala: B.Tech across government, aided and self-financing colleges, B.Pharm, B.Arch (where the KEAM application is combined with a NATA score), and a long list of medical-allied programmes. For medical programmes such as MBBS and BDS, admission is routed through NEET UG; KEAM's own written examination covers the Engineering and Pharmacy streams, and the CEE office also handles the centralised allotment (CAP) counselling for these courses.
The 2026 cycle, as it actually ran
The most recent complete cycle is the only reliable guide to the 2027 one:
- Online registration: 5 January to 6 February 2026 (5:00 PM), with documents to be uploaded by 7 February.
- Application correction window: mid-March 2026.
- Admit cards: released in early April 2026.
- Engineering and Pharmacy entrance examinations: held as computer-based tests across several days in mid-to-late April 2026, with buffer days around the main sessions.
- Rank lists and counselling: rank publication in June 2026, with centralised allotment rounds through June–July 2026.
The pattern across recent years is consistent: a January registration window, April examinations, May–June results and rank lists, and counselling through the summer. Expect the 2027 notification to follow the same skeleton — but treat any specific 2027 date online as speculation until the CEE prospectus confirms it.
Who is eligible
The eligibility rules from the CEE notification's prospectus are worth learning by heart, because they surprise applicants every year:
- Nationality: only Indian citizens can apply; PIO/OCI card holders are treated as Indian citizens for admission purposes but cannot claim reservation benefits.
- Nativity: candidates are classified as Keralite or Non-Keralite. Communal reservation, special reservation and fee concessions are available only to Keralites, and you need proper nativity proof — an SSLC showing a Kerala birthplace, a birth certificate from a Panchayat/Municipality, or a certificate in the CEE's prescribed format from a Village Officer/Tahsildar. This is the single most common reason applications get rejected.
- Age: you must have completed 17 years of age as of 31 December of the admission year. There is no upper age limit.
- Qualification for Engineering: passed (or appearing for) the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with the prescribed aggregate in those subjects. For B.Pharm, the qualifying-subject combination differs per the prospectus. For Architecture, a valid NATA score is mandatory alongside the application.
- Medical and allied courses: eligibility and admission are governed by NEET UG, applied through the same CEE portal and allotment process.
Read the prospectus section on eligibility twice before applying; a mistake in the nativity document or the subject combination cannot be fixed after the correction window closes.
Application fee and how to apply (2026 figures)
For the 2026 cycle the CEE notification set the fee as follows: Engineering or B.Pharm only — Rs. 925 (General), Rs. 400 (SC), nil for ST; Architecture or Medical & Allied only — Rs. 650 (General), Rs. 260 (SC), nil for ST. Candidates opting for the Dubai examination centre paid an additional Rs. 16,000. Fees are revised annually, so treat these as a guide to the order of magnitude until the 2027 prospectus is out.
The application itself is entirely online, step by step:
- On cee.kerala.gov.in, open the KEAM candidate portal and register with your name, email, mobile number and date of birth.
- Fill in personal, academic and contact details, and save a preview before proceeding.
- Pay the application fee online (debit/credit card or net banking).
- Upload a passport-size photograph and signature to the specified dimensions, plus your Class 10 certificate (nativity and date-of-birth proof) and other documents the portal asks for.
- Submit, and print the confirmation page — plus the proforma certificates the portal generates. Do not send hard copies to the CEE office.
- Use the correction window, when opened, to fix any error you spotted afterwards.
The examination itself
For Engineering, the KEAM examination is a computer-based test with objective questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, carrying a negative marking scheme (marks deducted for wrong answers). For Pharmacy, the paper structure covers Physics and Chemistry in a shorter session. The CEE publishes the detailed syllabus, the number of questions, the duration and the marking scheme in the prospectus each year — those numbers can change, so confirm them from the 2027 document rather than last year's guides. Normalisation across multiple sessions has been used in recent cycles, which is why answer keys, individual responses and normalised scores were published as separate stages in 2026.
After the exam: scores, rank lists, allotment
After the examination, the CEE publishes the answer key, then individual responses, then the entrance scores. The rank list — the engineering rank list that actually matters for allotment — combines entrance scores with qualifying-examination marks as prescribed in the prospectus, and is published later (in 2026 this came in June). Then comes the Centralised Allotment Process: candidates register their college/course options online, and seats are allotted in rounds on merit and reservation rules, with subsequent rounds for sliding and mop-up. Watch the CEE site through the summer; every round's schedule, option-registration window and allotment list is published there.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Weak nativity proof. Missing or invalid nativity documents are the classic KEAM rejection. Arrange the prescribed certificate early.
- Wrong subject combination assumptions. Engineering needs PCM in the qualifying exam; check the prospectus for your stream before the correction window closes.
- Ignoring the document-upload deadline. In 2026, certificates had to be uploaded by 7 February, a day after registration closed. The registration and the uploads are separate deadlines.
- Booking travel around "expected" dates. Session-wise exam dates are announced with the admit card schedule; do not fix travel on media reports.
- Architecture without NATA. Applying for B.Arch through KEAM without a valid NATA score leads nowhere — the two are a package.
- Assuming the fee is the same as last year. The 2026 fees were a revision; re-check the 2027 table before paying.
The moment CEE Kerala publishes the KEAM 2027 prospectus, the real dates replace every expectation on this page: registration window, exam days, and the fee table. Until then, January registration and April examinations are the pattern to plan around, and the eligibility documents are the paperwork to get ready now.
