What PGEAC is

PGEAC — the Post Graduate Engineering Admission Counselling — is how Bihar fills M.Tech seats in the state's engineering colleges. It is run by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB), Patna. The basic design is two-tier: candidates with a valid GATE score get the first rounds, and after the GATE rounds are over, candidates without a GATE score are considered on the merit of their qualifying degree for whatever seats remain. This third round belonged to that second stage.

The third-round timeline, as it happened

BCECEB put up the Round 3 seat matrix — the list of seats still vacant after Round 2 — on 31 August 2026. Fresh online registration and submission of consent/willingness ran from 2 September to 6 September 2026, with the fee payment window closing the night of 6 September. Candidates got one editing day on 7 September. The Round 3 rank card and the counselling programme were published on 9 September 2026 under Advertisement No. BCECEB(PGEAC)-2026/10, and offline counselling commenced on 11 September 2026. Registration cost a flat ₹2,200 for every category — unreserved, EWS, BC, EBC, SC, ST and PwD alike — paid online. BCECEB's board now carries the vacant-seat position after the third round, dated 14 September 2026, which confirms the round was completed.

Who could take part in Round 3

The round was open to non-GATE candidates for M.Tech seats left vacant after Round 2 — either as fresh applicants registering for the first time, or as earlier-round candidates submitting their willingness for the vacant seats. Two special categories of candidates were also given a path in. Candidates already admitted through Round 2 who wanted to participate in Round 3 had to submit additional documents at verification: their admission slip plus a bonafide certificate from the college where they were admitted, confirming that their original documents were held there. And candidates who had been denied allotment in Round 2 purely over a discrepancy in their B.E./B.Tech. passed percentage were allowed to correct their percentage in the application, finalise the form and re-enter the race. That correction window was genuinely useful — percentage-entry mistakes are common and normally fatal in a merit round.

The eligibility base beneath it all

Underneath the round structure, PGEAC is for candidates with a B.E./B.Tech. (or equivalent) in the relevant branch, and Bihar's domicile and reservation rules apply to the state-quota seats. GATE candidates had the priority rounds; non-GATE candidates are ranked on their qualifying-examination marks in the later rounds. If your degree is from outside Bihar or your branch nomenclature does not obviously match the M.Tech specialisation, get the equivalence clarified before a future round rather than discovering the problem at verification.

Documents the counselling required

Candidates were told to carry: the GATE 2026 scorecard and admit card (for GATE-category applicants), Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, the graduation degree and all semester mark sheets, category certificate where applicable, Bihar domicile certificate, recent passport-size photographs and signature, and a valid photo identity proof. The registration itself was online — document originals were produced at the offline counselling venue.

What to do now

The third round is over and the post-round vacant-seat position is on the board. If you have a Round 3 allotment, your next step is the standard one: report to the allotted institute, complete admission within the dates on your allotment order, and keep every receipt. If you are still seatless, watch the BCECEB notice board — whether a fourth round is held depends entirely on how many seats stayed vacant after 14 September, and any such notice will appear in the same PGEAC series.

For candidates aiming at PGEAC 2027, the lesson is structural: the strongest position is a valid GATE score, because GATE candidates fill the first rounds and choose first from the full seat matrix. If you are writing GATE 2027, plan your PGEAC participation around your scorecard; if you are a non-GATE candidate, know that your entry point is the later rounds, where your B.E./B.Tech. percentage is the deciding number — keep that percentage documentation clean, current and exactly as entered.

One practical habit applies whichever round you target: watch the BCECEB notice board weekly rather than waiting for news forwards, and keep a single folder with your degree marksheets, domicile and category certificates, identity proof and photographs, so that when a fresh registration window opens — for Round 4 or for PGEAC 2027 — you can complete the form and upload in one sitting instead of scrambling at the deadline.
