Who is eligible

  • You must be a permanent resident (domicile) of Uttar Pradesh.
  • You must be enrolled in a school, college or institution that is registered on the UP scholarship portal — if your institution is not on the portal, your application cannot move forward.
  • Income limits (annual family income): up to ₹1,00,000 for Pre-Matric; for Post-Matric, up to ₹2,50,000 for SC and ST students and up to ₹2,00,000 for OBC, General and Minority students.
  • You should have secured at least 50% marks in the previous class or examination.
  • Your bank account must be linked with Aadhaar and enabled for DBT, because payment is made through PFMS directly into the Aadhaar-seeded account.

All five communities — General, SC, ST, OBC and Minority — can apply; what changes by category is the income ceiling and which department processes the file.

Dates for 2026–27

The notified schedule for this session is staggered, and it matters to use the window for your level:

  • Classes 9–12 (Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Intermediate): fresh applications ran from 11 August to 21 September 2026; Class 12 renewal applications closed on 25 August 2026. Final printouts were due by 30 September, with hard-copy submission and school verification following in early October.
  • Dashmottar (UG, PG, diploma, ITI, PhD and other post-Class-12 courses): fresh applications opened on 15 September 2026 and close on 31 October 2026. Renewal applications for these courses close earlier, on 15 October 2026.
  • A correction window for students is scheduled from 21 November to 20 December 2026, and fund transfer by DBT is expected in the last week of January 2027 for verified applications.

If you are reading this for a degree or diploma course, your operative deadline is 31 October 2026 for a fresh application — and renewals have already closed on 15 October.

How to apply, step by step

  • Complete One Time Registration (OTR) first. OTR has been mandatory since 2025–26: register on scholarship.up.gov.in, complete Aadhaar e-KYC, and keep your OTR number safe. One student gets one OTR.
  • Log in and choose the correct head — Fresh or Renewal — and the correct level (Pre-Matric, Intermediate or Dashmottar) and category.
  • Fill the form with your personal, academic, income and bank details. Names and dates of birth must match your high-school certificate and Aadhaar exactly; mismatches are the top cause of verification failure.
  • Complete the Aadhaar OTP verification and DigiLocker-based document verification the portal now asks for.
  • Upload the documents, submit, and take the final printout.
  • Submit the signed hard copy to your school or college. This step is not optional: the institution verifies and forwards your application online, and without the hard copy many institutions will not process it.
  • Track your application under the portal's Status section using your registration number and date of birth, and check payment status separately on pfms.nic.in once funds are released.

Documents you will need

  • Aadhaar card
  • Income certificate issued by the tehsil, in the father's name
  • Caste certificate (where applicable)
  • Domicile/residence certificate
  • High-school certificate and previous year's marksheet
  • Fee receipt and enrolment details from the institution
  • Bank passbook copy (Aadhaar-linked account)
  • Recent passport-size photograph

Common mistakes

Choosing the wrong login head (fresh vs renewal) or the wrong category is the classic error, and it usually cannot be undone after final submission. Next is the income certificate: it must be current and in the father's name as the portal expects. Third, students submit online and never hand the printout to the institution — the application then sits unverified until the window closes. Finally, check that your bank account is genuinely Aadhaar-seeded for DBT, not merely "linked": scholarships are rejected at the payment stage every year for accounts that were never seeded with NPCI.
