Odisha Board 2027: Two Boards, Two Calendars — the Twelve-Day Sprint and the Five-Week Marathon
Odisha is not one board examination; it is two, run by two separate authorities whose calendars barely resemble each other. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha conducts the Class 10 HSC (High School Certificate) examination — in 2026, a compressed twelve-day sprint. The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha conducts the Class 12 Plus Two (Annual Higher Secondary Examination) — in 2026, a five-week marathon across four streams. Students and parents who plan "the Odisha board exam" as a single event misjudge both: the HSC student needs intensity over a fortnight, the Plus Two student needs stamina over a month, and the two results arrive eighteen days apart in May from two different portals.
The 2027 status is the same for both boards, and it is stated plainly: neither BSE nor CHSE has published a 2027 timetable yet. In the 2026 cycle, BSE released the HSC timetable in early December 2025 (the detailed schedule was reported on 5 December 2025). If the boards hold their rhythm, the first 2027 document to expect is the HSC routine around December 2026, with the CHSE programme on its own timetable at chseodisha.nic.in. Any complete "Odisha Board 2027 routine" circulating before then is the 2026 sheet with the year changed.
BSE Odisha — HSC (Class 10): twelve days, six papers, done
The Annual HSC Examination 2026 ran from 19 February to 2 March 2026, in a single morning sitting, 9 AM to 11:30 AM, for regular and ex-regular candidates. The whole examination is six main papers, and their order is a study in compression: First Language on 19 February, Second Language on 21 February, Third Language on 23 February, Science on 25 February, Social Science on 27 February, and Mathematics — with an extra 15 minutes allowed — closing the examination on 2 March. Vocational practicals were slotted inside the window, on 22 February. There is almost no recovery time anywhere in this sheet: a paper every alternate day, three languages before the first content-heavy paper, and Mathematics held to the very end, when fatigue is highest. The HSC preparation lesson writes itself — this is not an examination you can cram paper-by-paper during the window; the student who is not fully prepared on 18 February has no gap in which to become prepared.
The result matched the examination's efficiency. Declared on 2 May 2026 at 4 PM, the HSC result recorded 5,36,306 students appeared and over 5.19 lakh passed — an overall pass percentage of 95.33% — with Gajapati district the top performer and, for the first time, provisional marksheets issued in both Odia and English. Results are checked on orissaresults.nic.in, bseodisha.ac.in and DigiLocker. The HSC supplementary examination followed in July 2026 (2–10 July), with its result in August — the recovery route for the small minority who need it, on a timetable that still protects the academic year.
CHSE Odisha — Plus Two (Class 12): four streams, five weeks, one joint result
The Annual Higher Secondary Examination 2026 ran from 18 February to 21 March 2026 — starting a day before the HSC and finishing nearly three weeks after it — preceded by practical and internal examinations from 2 to 15 January 2026 (with an earlier phase in late December 2025 for some components). A total of 4,00,736 students registered: Arts 2,56,042, Science 1,14,238, Commerce 24,533 and Vocational 5,923. Read those numbers and you understand Odisha's Plus Two: it is overwhelmingly an Arts examination with a large Science cohort attached, and its calendar is long because its subject combinations are many.
The result, declared on 20 May 2026, brought a structural change of its own: all streams were announced together, ending the older pattern in which Science and Commerce came first and Arts students waited. The overall pass percentage was 85.85%, up nearly three points on the previous year. Stream-wise: Science 88.82%, Commerce 88.07%, Arts 84.50%, and the Vocational stream below them at roughly 77–78%. Girls outperformed boys in every stream — in Arts by a wide margin, 89.45% against 77.97%. Results are checked with roll and registration numbers on results.odisha.gov.in, chseodisha.nic.in and DigiLocker, and the CHSE supplementary/instant route followed in July 2026 for students who fell short.
Planning two different examinations in one household
The practical consequences of the two-board structure are concrete. First, the preparation shapes differ: the HSC student's danger is the alternate-day rhythm — there is no "easy week" — while the Plus Two student's danger is the opposite, a five-week window in which early papers get disproportionate preparation and late papers are revised when energy is gone. Second, the January practical season belongs to CHSE: Plus Two students lose most of January to practicals and internals and must have theory revision substantially complete by December, while their younger HSC siblings are still in a normal school month. Third, expectations must be set separately: a 95.33% HSC pass environment and an 85.85% Plus Two environment are different worlds, and a family that carries HSC-era expectations into Plus Two results day will misread a perfectly normal outcome as a failure.
Read across to 2027 — expectation, labelled as such, not announcement: HSC routine in December 2026; Plus Two practicals across December 2026–January 2027; HSC theory in the third week of February to early March 2027; Plus Two theory from mid-February into late March 2027; HSC result in early May 2027 and the joint Plus Two result in mid-to-late May 2027.
Your action list
- HSC students: be finished by mid-February 2027.A twelve-day, alternate-day examination has no internal recovery time; the preparation must precede it entirely.
- Plus Two students: finish theory revision by December 2026.January belongs to practicals; February and March belong to a five-week paper window that rewards even pacing.
- Download each routine from its own board— bseodisha.ac.in for HSC, chseodisha.nic.in for Plus Two — when they appear; the two boards do not publish for each other.
- Keep both login sets safeHSC results run on roll details, Plus Two on roll plus registration number. Photograph both admit cards.
- On results days, use the official portals and DigiLocker only(orissaresults.nic.in / results.odisha.gov.in); the online marksheet is provisional and the original comes through your school or college.
Odisha asks two different things of its two cohorts: a fortnight of intensity from its sixteen-year-olds, a month of endurance from its eighteen-year-olds, and patience from both until May. The 2027 routines are awaited — but the shapes of the two examinations, and therefore the shapes of the two preparations, are already known.
