Punjab Board 2027: The Board That Examines Your Child Four Times — Classes 5, 8, 10 and 12

Most Indian boards meet a student twice: Class 10 and Class 12. The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), Mohali, meets a Punjab student four times. PSEB conducts full board examinations — published date sheets, board-issued admit arrangements, results on the official portal — for Class 5 and Class 8 as well as the Matric (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) examinations. A child in a PSEB school writes their first board examination at about ten years old. That single fact reorganises everything about how a Punjab family should read this page: the "board year" is not a two-year event at the end of schooling, it is a rhythm the household returns to four times, and the skills that matter — reading a date sheet, keeping a roll number safe, checking a result on pseb.ac.in — are worth learning properly the first time.

The 2027 status, plainly: PSEB has not published any 2027 date sheet yet. The 2026 sheets for Classes 8, 10 and 12 were released together on the board's portal ahead of the February start. On that pattern, expect the 2027 sheets in the weeks before the February 2027 examinations — and treat any subject-wise "PSEB 2027 date sheet" circulating earlier as a copy of 2026 with the year edited.

The complete 2026 calendar — all four examinations

Class 5 (primary board examination), 2026: exams ran 6 to 12 March 2026, and the result was declared on 28 March 2026 — a turnaround of barely two weeks, the fastest of any board examination in the state. Papers carry 80 marks of theory plus 20 marks of internal assessment, and the passing standard is 33% in each subject, the same formal bar as the senior classes.

Class 8 (middle board examination), 2026: exams ran 17 to 27 February 2026 — starting the same day as Class 12 — with the result on 10 April 2026. The structure mirrors Class 5: 80-mark theory papers, 20 marks internal, 33% per subject to pass, results by roll number on the portal and by SMS.

Class 10 (Matric), 2026: exams ran 6 March to 1 April 2026 in the board's morning shift, 11 AM to 2:15 PM, opening with Social Science on 6 March and closing with Health and Physical Education on 1 April; Mathematics sat late in the window, on 24 March. The result was declared on 11 May 2026: 2,69,505 students appeared, 2,54,744 passed — 94.52%.

Class 12 (Senior Secondary), 2026: the longest window of the four, 17 February to 4 April 2026, across Science, Commerce and Arts streams, also in the 11 AM – 2:15 PM shift. The result followed on 13 May 2026, two days after Matric: 2,65,417 appeared, 2,42,755 passed — 91.46%.

Across Classes 10 and 12 alone, that is over 5.34 lakh students in one season — before counting the two junior examinations. The read-across to 2027, labelled as expectation throughout: Class 8 and Class 12 opening in mid-February 2027, Class 5 and Class 10 in early March 2027, junior results in late March and April 2027, and the two senior results in mid-May 2027, Class 12 a couple of days after Class 10 as in 2026 — that order reversed the usual national pattern, so do not assume Class 10 comes first just because it did elsewhere.

What the four-exam structure actually changes for families

Three practical consequences follow from PSEB's design, and none of them appear on generic board-exam pages. First, the stakes are graduated on purpose: Classes 5 and 8 carry the board's format — external papers, a published sheet, a formal result — at ages where a bad season costs little, so that by Class 10 the format itself holds no fear. A parent who treats the Class 5 examination as a crisis teaches the child the opposite of the lesson the structure is built to teach. Second, the internal-assessment fifth of the marks (20 of 100) is school-controlled in the junior classes — attendance, class work and school assessments feed it — which means the junior board result is partly decided months before the exam week, in ordinary school weeks. Third, the roll number habit compounds: the same portal, the same result mechanics and the same SMS routes serve all four examinations, so a family that learns the system once, in Class 5, reuses it three more times.

After the result: compartment, stated precisely

For Classes 10 and 12, PSEB's recovery route is the supplementary (compartment) examination, and its boundary is exact: students who fail in one or two subjects are eligible; students who fail in more than two subjects are not — they repeat the full academic year. In the 2026 cycle the supplementary examinations ran from early July. The two-subject line is the most consequential number on this page for a struggling student: effort spread to pull a third failing subject above the line is worth more than effort spent raising a comfortable pass, because it is the difference between a July rescue and a lost year.

Your action list

  1. Know which of the four examinations your child is in, and plan only from that class's sheet — the four windows overlap but are not the same calendar.
  2. Download the 2027 sheet from pseb.ac.in when it appearsand note the 11 AM – 2:15 PM shift; Punjab's late-morning start is unusual and kind to households with long commutes, but only if it is planned for.
  3. Guard the roll number. It is the login for the result in every class, the SMS routes and the supplementary form.
  4. For Class 5 and 8 parents: protect the internal-assessment marksby treating ordinary school weeks as part of the examination — because, for 20% of the result, they literally are.
  5. For Class 10 and 12 students near the pass line: defend the two-subject boundary.Compartment eligibility, not the aggregate, is what decides whether a bad season costs a summer or a year.

Punjab's board is the most examination-dense in the country by design: four formal encounters between age ten and eighteen, one portal, one set of mechanics. The 2027 sheets are awaited — but a PSEB family's preparation is never really starting from zero, and that is precisely the board's point.
