NEET UG 2027: what is confirmed, what is expected, and what to do now
As of 20 October 2026, the National Testing Agency has not announced NEET UG 2027. There is no 2027 information bulletin, no registration notice and no official exam date on neet.nta.nic.in — the portal is still closing out the 2026 cycle, whose counselling is being run by the Medical Counselling Committee and state authorities. Any page showing you a confirmed 2027 date or an open 2027 application window is guessing, and at least one large education portal is currently doing exactly that. This page separates the three things students keep mixing up: what is confirmed (the completed 2026 cycle and the standing NMC eligibility rules), what is expected (the 2027 planning timeline), and what is still unknown (the 2027 fee, the 2027 syllabus document, and — unusually — the exam mode).

Expected timeline — planning only, not official
NEET UG has settled into a stable annual rhythm, and the regular 2026 cycle is the honest baseline: registration opened 8 February 2026, was extended to 11 March 2026, the correction window ran 12–14 March, the exam was held on Sunday, 3 May 2026, and — after an exceptional re-examination on 21 June 2026 — the result was declared on 16 July 2026, with about 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying. The exceptional re-exam is deliberately not used as the planning pattern; the regular cycle is.
| Milestone | Expected 2027 window | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Information bulletin / registration opens | February 2027 | 2026 registration opened 8 February 2026 |
| Registration closes (after likely extension) | March 2027 | 2026 closed 11 March after extension |
| Correction window | March 2027 | 2026 ran 12–14 March |
| City intimation / admit card | Late April 2027 | Issued shortly before the exam in prior cycles |
| Exam | 2 May 2027 — expected, not official | First Sunday of May 2027; regular 2026 exam was Sunday, 3 May 2026 |
| Provisional answer key / OMR challenge | May–June 2027 | Follows the exam in the normal sequence |
| Result | June 2027 (July if disrupted, as in 2026) | 2026 result came 16 July after the re-exam |
| Counselling | After result | MCC (15% All India Quota, deemed/central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER) and state authorities (85% state quota) run separate rounds |
Use 2 May 2027 to plan syllabus completion and revision. Do not use it to book travel or buy anything date-locked.
Eligibility — the standing rules (2026 bulletin / NMC reference)
Eligibility is the part of the 2027 picture that is already knowable, because it is set by the National Medical Commission's framework and repeated in each year's bulletin with little change. It is labelled here as reference, not as a 2027 announcement:
- Age: You must complete 17 years on or before 31 December 2027. There is no upper age limit.
- Qualifying exam: Class 12 or equivalent, passed or appearing in 2027, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology, plus English, from a recognised board.
- Minimum PCB aggregate (Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together): 50% for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL, 45% for General-PwBD.
- Nationality: Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals may appear; which seats each group can claim is decided at counselling, not by the exam.
- Attempts: No restriction on the number of attempts.
- Qualifying percentile in the exam itself: 50th percentile for General, 40th percentile for reserved categories — separate from the much higher admission cutoffs that colleges actually fill at.
The single most common eligibility failure is not age or attempts — it is the PCB aggregate. A student with 49% in PCB is ineligible for admission even with a strong NEET score, and no counselling round can waive it.
Exam pattern — last confirmed (2026), and the open CBT question
The last confirmed pattern is 180 compulsory questions for 720 marks in 3 hours: Physics 45 questions/180 marks, Chemistry 45/180, Biology (Botany + Zoology) 90/360 — exactly half the paper. Marking is +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer, 0 for unattempted. There is no optional section; the pre-2025 Section B choice is gone. The paper was offered in 13 languages and, in 2026, conducted in pen-and-paper OMR mode.
For 2027, one genuine unknown remains: the mode. Through 2026, government statements indicated NEET UG would move to a computer-based test from 2027, and some coaching portals now present CBT as settled. NTA has not confirmed the 2027 mode in an information bulletin. Treat CBT as reported, not decided: if the bulletin confirms it, what changes is your practice format (computer-based mocks, on-screen navigation), not the syllabus, the subject split or the marking scheme. Until then, prepare the content the same way and add CBT-format mocks as insurance, not as a replacement for OMR practice.
Application fee — 2026 reference only
The 2027 fee has not been announced. For budgeting, the official 2026 fee for centres in India was ₹1,700 (General), ₹1,600 (General-EWS/OBC-NCL) and ₹1,000 (SC/ST/PwBD/third gender), with a flat ₹9,500 for centres outside India. Budget on those figures; the 2027 bulletin is the only authority for the 2027 fee.
How registration will work when it opens
Based on the confirmed 2026 process: register on neet.nta.nic.in with your own mobile number and email (the application number issued at registration is needed at every later stage, including the admit card and result); fill personal and Class 10/12 details exactly as they appear on your certificates — a name mismatch between Aadhaar and the Class 10 certificate is the most common cause of correction-window panic; choose your exam cities and question-paper medium; upload the photograph, signature and certificates in the sizes the bulletin specifies; and pay online, saving the confirmation page and payment receipt. Have the documents ready in January: every year candidates lose registration days to a category certificate in the wrong format.
Year-wise context: why "expected" deserves respect
NEET was held on 7 May 2023, 5 May 2024 and 4 May 2025 — the first-week-of-May pattern is real, which is why 2 May 2027 is a reasonable planning estimate. But 2026 is the standing warning: an announced exam (3 May) still ended in a re-examination (21 June) and a July result. Plan firmly, commit money loosely, and let neet.nta.nic.in — not forwards, not coaching pages — tell you when anything becomes official.
What to do now
Prepare against the current NMC syllabus with complete coverage — with no optional section, a skipped Biology chapter is 4 marks handed away per question. Keep Class 10/12 documents, category certificate and photographs organised and consistent in name spelling. Ignore any site asking you to "register for NEET 2027" today or to upload documents anywhere except the official portal when it opens. And when the bulletin lands, the pages that matter are the ones that update their status tables — check the "checked" date before trusting any 2027 claim, including on this site.
Sources & verification
Checked 20 October 2026: neet.nta.nic.in (via the pack's verified portal checks) still carries the 2026 cycle with no 2027 bulletin. Expected-timeline basis, year-wise history, Re-NEET 2026 record and counselling structure cross-checked against Aakash's NEET exam-date page (opened 2026-10-20); eligibility marks and pattern against TestWizer's NEET UG page (opened 2026-10-20); 2026 registration dates, fee table and cutoff context from this pack's own verified rewrites for the NEET sub-pages. Claims of a 13 October 2026 NEET 2027 notification found on competitor pages were not corroborated on the official portal and are not repeated as fact.

The official NEET portal remains on the 2026 cycle. No NEET UG 2027 information bulletin, application notice or official exam date was found. The 2027 planning estimate uses the latest regular-cycle pattern only; the exceptional 2026 re-examination is not used as the baseline.
Frequently asked questions
Has NTA announced the NEET UG 2027 exam date?
No. As of 20 October 2026 there is no 2027 bulletin or date on neet.nta.nic.in. 2 May 2027 is a planning estimate based on the first-Sunday-of-May pattern, not an announcement.
When will NEET UG 2027 registration start?
Not announced. On the 2026 rhythm (registration opened 8 February 2026), February 2027 is the expected window — an expectation, not a date.
Will NEET 2027 be online (CBT) or offline?
Unconfirmed. A shift to CBT from 2027 has been reported from government statements, but no NTA bulletin confirms the 2027 mode yet. The last confirmed mode (2026) is pen-and-paper.

On the standing rules: 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for General/EWS, 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL, 45% for General-PwBD — plus English, and age 17 by 31 December 2027. The 2027 bulletin remains the final authority.
What was the NEET UG 2026 result?
Declared 16 July 2026 after the 21 June re-examination; about 11.21 lakh candidates qualified. The regular 2026 exam was held on 3 May 2026.
