JEE Main 2027 Question Papers: Official PDF Status, Previous Papers & How to Practise With Them

There is no JEE Main 2027 question paper to download — anywhere, from anyone. The exam hasn't been conducted, and a paper only exists after students have sat it. Sites offering a "JEE Main 2027 paper PDF" today are selling you a mock test, a renamed previous-year paper, or worse. What you can legitimately do right now is far more useful: practise with the genuine NTA papers from recent cycles, and know exactly where the real 2027 papers will appear after each session.

Three different things get called "question papers" — know which one you have

  1. Official NTA papers. After each session, NTA publishes the administered question papers on jeemain.nta.nic.in, alongside the provisional answer key and each candidate's recorded responses (your own response sheet, visible after login). These are the only files you should score yourself against.
  2. Memory-based reconstructions.Coaching institutes interview students leaving the exam hall and rebuild the paper from memory within hours. Useful for a same-day difficulty read, dangerous as a scoring tool — questions get misremembered, options shuffled, numbers changed.
  3. Mock and sample papers.Practice material wearing a year label. Fine for revision, worthless as a difficulty benchmark.

Where the official papers live, and when

NTA's cycle in recent years runs the same way: Session 1 in January and Session 2 in April (Session 2 of the 2026 cycle ran 2–8 April 2026). Within days of each session ending, the provisional answer key and question papers go up on the official JEE Main website, with a short window to challenge answers on payment of the prescribed fee per question, followed by the final key. When 2027 runs, check the "Question Papers" / public-notices area of jeemain.nta.nic.in — not a Telegram channel, not a coaching site's re-upload of uncertain provenance.

How to use previous papers so they actually raise your score

Most students waste papers. They solve them untimed, check answers as they go, and finish feeling prepared. Do it the hard way instead:

  1. Full paper, exam conditions. One complete paper, 3 hours, no phone, no peeking, ideally on a computer screen since JEE Main is a CBT. Use a previous session's shift-wise paper — they're uneven in difficulty, and that unevenness is the point.
  2. Score with that year's marking scheme.Paper 1 in the 2026 pattern: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer — for MCQs and numerical questions alike — and 0 for unattempted. Never re-score an old paper with a guessed 2027 scheme.
  3. Tag every loss by cause, not just chapter.Wrong concept, silly arithmetic, misread question, ran out of time, guessed badly. Four of those five are preparation-system problems, not knowledge problems, and they fix differently.
  4. Re-solve the misses after revising.A week later, redo only the questions you lost. If the same chapter produces the same error again, it goes back on your study list — properly this time.
  5. Rotate shifts.Solving five papers from one easy session flatters you. Mix years and shifts; your percentile estimate should come from percentile tables for those papers, not raw marks.

After your 2027 shift

Download your recorded responses and the official paper as soon as NTA releases them, score yourself against the provisional key, and challenge only answers you can defend with an NCERT reference — the challenge fee is per question and forfeited if your challenge fails. Keep the final key's verdict in mind before counselling predictions start flying around online.

Where beginners should start

If you haven't worked through old papers before, don't start with the toughest session. Begin with a recent year whose difficulty was described as moderate, solve it strictly in three hours on a computer screen, and treat the first paper as diagnostic — the goal is a loss-tag list, not a score to celebrate. Session-wise papers from 2024 and 2025 are plentiful and stable in pattern, so they make good first candidates. Save the most recent 2026 shifts for your final month, since they're the closest picture of where NTA's difficulty is heading.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the JEE Main 2027 question paper now?

No — the exam has not been conducted, and a paper only exists after students have sat it. Anything offered today as a 2027 paper PDF is a mock test or a renamed previous-year paper.

Where will the official JEE Main 2027 question papers be published?

On jeemain.nta.nic.in, within days of each session ending, alongside the provisional answer key and each candidate's recorded responses, which are visible after login.

What is the marking scheme for practising with previous papers?

Score old papers with that year's scheme — Paper 1 in the 2026 pattern was +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer for MCQs and numerical questions alike, and 0 for unattempted. Never re-score an old paper with a guessed 2027 scheme.

Are memory-based question papers reliable for scoring myself?

No. Coaching institutes rebuild them from student memory within hours, so questions get misremembered, options shuffled and numbers changed. They are useful for a same-day difficulty read, but only official NTA papers should be scored against.

When are the JEE Main sessions held?

In recent years Session 1 is in January and Session 2 in April — Session 2 of the 2026 cycle ran 2–8 April 2026. The 2027 session dates are not announced and must be confirmed from the 2027 information bulletin.
