What was declared, and who ran it
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research's postgraduate entrance examinations are conducted by the National Testing Agency, which is why you'll see the result hosted on NTA's ICAR pages rather than on ICAR's main website. Two examinations are covered by this result: AIEEA (PG), the entrance for master's programmes across agricultural and allied disciplines, and AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD), the entrance for doctoral programmes and fellowship consideration.
For the 2026 cycle (academic year 2026–27), the examinations were held in computer-based test mode on 4 July 2026, and NTA declared the results with the final answer keys on 29 August 2026. The scale: 42,110 candidates registered — 30,619 for AIEEA (PG) and 11,491 for AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD) — and 38,720 appeared (28,303 PG and 10,417 PhD). If you took either paper, the result and final key are the two documents you need — the key lets you verify how NTA scored contested questions, and the result is what counselling acts on. Your scorecard shows your name, roll and application numbers, category, subject group or subject, and your marks out of 480 — check every field, because counselling registration is built from exactly this data.
What the result means
Your result carries your subject-wise score and your merit position. For AIEEA (PG), merit determines which master's programmes you can seek admission to; for AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD), it determines doctoral admission consideration and, for top ranks, fellowship awards. This is a qualifying-and-ranking examination — the result does not itself admit you anywhere. Admission happens afterwards through the ICAR counselling process, where seats are allocated against your rank, your choices, and reservation rules. Keep the scorecard safe until the admission process for your institution is fully complete; you'll be asked for it at counselling registration and again at document verification.
How to download your scorecard
- Go to the official NTA ICAR portal (exams.nta.nic.in/icar) and open the results or latest-notification section.
- Click the link for the ICAR AIEEA (PG) Result 2026 or the ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD) Result 2026, whichever paper you took.
- Enter your application number along with your date of birth or password, exactly as in your application.
- Complete the security captcha if one appears, then submit.
- Your result will display on screen. Download the scorecard PDF immediately and keep both a digital copy and a printout.
Use only the official portal. Unofficial links, WhatsApp forwards, and screenshots claiming to be results are unreliable and occasionally malicious — the scorecard downloaded from NTA is the only one counselling will accept.

Eligibility — the rules NTA applied
For AIEEA (PG): a bachelor's degree of at least four years in the matching subject group, with an OGPA of 6.60 out of 10 or 60% marks (5.60 OGPA or 50% for SC, ST, PwBD, and third-gender candidates), and a minimum age of 19 years. Final-year undergraduates could apply provided they completed the degree by the bulletin date.
For AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD): a master's degree in the matching subject, with an OGPA of 6.50 out of 10 or 60% marks (5.50 OGPA or 50% for SC, ST, PwBD, and third-gender candidates), and a minimum age of 20 years.
AIEEA (PG) covers twenty subject groups — plant biotechnology, agronomy, entomology, horticulture, veterinary and animal science, dairy science, fisheries, agricultural engineering, home science, agribusiness management, and others. The PhD paper spans roughly seventy-two subjects across nine broad discipline groups.
Exam pattern, for reference
Both papers follow the same format: a two-hour computer-based test with 120 multiple-choice questions for 480 marks, conducted in English only. Each correct answer earns four marks and each wrong answer costs one. The PG paper draws all 120 questions from your major subject group; the PhD paper is divided into three parts (20 + 50 + 50 questions). Knowing the pattern matters now mainly for one reason: if you plan to re-attempt next year, you already know exactly what to prepare for.
What to do next
If you qualified: ICAR's own online counselling (at icarcounseling.com) is where ranks turn into seats, and for 2026 it started a month after the result. The PG (other than Veterinary) and PhD schedule ran as follows:
| Counselling step (2026, PG other than Veterinary & PhD) | Date |
|---|---|
| Ranks, seat matrix, registration and choice filling | 29 September – 2 October 2026 |
| Round 1 allotment | 5 October 2026 |
| Round 2 allotment | 9 October 2026 |
| Round 3 allotment | 12 October 2026 |
| Round 4 allotment | 15 October 2026 |
| Mop-up choice filling | 19 – 21 October 2026 |
| Mop-up allotment | 23 October 2026 |
Veterinary PG follows a separate schedule — check the counselling portal for your stream rather than borrowing the table above. As of this update (20 October 2026), the mop-up round is the live stage: if you are still unallotted, mop-up choice filling is the last regular door, and it closes on 21 October. Two rules worth knowing before you fill choices: NTA sets no single qualifying mark — ICAR ranks you within your subject group or subject — and a candidate with a zero or negative score is not eligible for counselling at all. Do not travel or pay fees anywhere until an official allotment letter tells you to. Keep your scorecard, admit card, degree certificates, category certificate (if applicable), and a valid photo ID in one folder — you'll need all of them at document verification.
If your score fell short: the final answer key is worth reviewing once, calmly. If a challenge you raised was upheld, that's recorded; if your score stands, treat this cycle as preparation intelligence for the next attempt. The bulletin for the next cycle usually appears in the first half of the year, and the eligibility and pattern described above are unlikely to change substantially.
Common mistakes to avoid: downloading the result from a third-party "result checker" site and treating it as final; assuming the result alone secures a seat (it doesn't — counselling does); and missing the counselling registration window because you were checking the wrong portal. All counselling communication comes from the official NTA ICAR / ICAR pages, not from SMS services or coaching centres.
