Who can apply

The conditions are the same spine across every band, with the course band changing:

  • You are an Indian national currently studying in India.
  • School band: Classes 1 to 12, or a diploma, ITI or polytechnic course, at a private, government or government-aided institution.
  • Undergraduate band: a full-time general degree (B.Com, B.Sc, B.A and similar) or professional degree (B.Tech, MBBS, LLB, B.Arch, Nursing and similar) at a recognised college or university.
  • Postgraduate band: a general PG course (M.Com, M.A and similar) or a professional one (M.Tech, MBA and similar) at a recognised institution.
  • You scored at least 55% in your previous qualifying examination. There is no rounding mercy here — the programme's own FAQ turns away a student with 53.4%.
  • Your annual family income from all sources is ₹2.5 lakh or less.
  • Diploma students take note: only those who entered the diploma after completing Class 12 are eligible.

On top of the hard criteria sits a preference, and it is the heart of the scheme: applicants who have faced a personal or family crisis in the past three years — and are at risk of dropping out because of it — are preferred. A crisis is not a soft claim; it must be documented (see below). Students without a crisis can and do apply, but they should understand they are behind documented-crisis applicants in a competitive, fixed-budget selection.

What you receive

The award is a flat amount per year set by your band, not a reimbursement against bills:

What you receive
BandAnnual amount
Classes 1 to 6₹15,000
Classes 7 to 12, Diploma, ITI, Polytechnic₹18,000
General undergraduate courses₹30,000
Professional undergraduate courses₹50,000
General postgraduate courses₹35,000
Professional postgraduate courses₹75,000

Selection is multi-stage: shortlisting against the eligibility criteria, document verification, a personal interview of shortlisted candidates, and then the final list of scholars. The programme also states that the scholarship now continues for multiple years for scholars who keep meeting the eligibility criteria in subsequent years — but treat each year as something to be re-established with fresh documents, not an entitlement that rolls over on its own.

How to apply

  • Open the programme page at parivartanecss.com and click Apply Now, which takes you to Buddy4Study.
  • Log in with your registered Buddy4Study ID, or register with your email, mobile or Gmail account.
  • On the 'Parivartan ECSS Scholarship Programme 2026–27' form page, click Start Application.
  • Fill the form with details exactly as your documents state — class/course and institution, previous-exam marks, family income, and the crisis account if you are claiming the preference.
  • Upload the documents listed below, accept the terms and conditions, and use Preview to check everything before you hit Submit. A mismatch you can see in preview is a rejection you avoid.

One practical edge case the programme itself answers: if you cannot produce this year's fee receipt because you have not been able to pay the fee, submit your admission letter or admission confirmation letter instead — lack of a fee receipt does not by itself disqualify a first-year applicant.

Documents you will need

A passport-size photograph; the previous year's marksheet (2025–26 for school applicants); a government-issued identity proof (Aadhaar, voter ID or driving licence); current-year admission proof — fee receipt, admission letter, institution ID card or bonafide certificate; bank account details (passbook copy or cancelled cheque, in the applicant's or a parent's name for younger students); and income proof — a certificate from the SDM/DM/Collector/Tehsildar, or one issued by the Gram Panchayat, ward counsellor or sarpanch, or an affidavit (salary slips, an employer letter or an ITR also serve as income evidence per the programme FAQ).

Crisis proof, if you are claiming the preference, is specific: a death certificate for the loss of an earning family member; an official employer letter for job loss; a notarised affidavit for failure of self-employment; a medical report or prescription from a certified doctor for illness or a medical emergency; or an official government document confirming the impact of a natural disaster.

After you apply: interview, status and payment

ECSS has three separate application forms — School, Undergraduate and Postgraduate — and you apply under exactly one, the one matching your current level. Picking the wrong form is a wasted application.

Interview slot booking. Shortlisted candidates book their own interview slot on Buddy4Study: log in, open the Applied Scholarships tab, and click Slot Book (it appears only while the slot-booking window is open), then pick a date and time. The interview call comes on your registered mobile number; you can add an alternate number in the slot-booking window.

Checking status. There is no separate status page. Log in to Buddy4Study, open your dashboard and the Applied Scholarships tab — your current stage is shown there.

How long does payment take? No official timeline is published for this programme. Buddy4Study's general timeline for the scholarships it hosts is roughly: shortlisting of eligible applications 15–20 days after applications close, interviews and document verification about another month, and disbursal to the selected student's bank account roughly one month after that. Treat this as a planning estimate, not a promise.

How competitive is it? Very. The programme supported 6,553 scholars in 2025–26 and 6,262 in 2024–25 against applications from Class 1 to postgraduate level across India — which is why a documented crisis and a complete file matter more than raw marks above the 55% floor.

Check before you submit

  • Marks in the previous examination are 55% or more — 54% fails, with no rounding.
  • Annual family income is ₹2.5 lakh or less, and the figure matches across the certificate, the form and your records.
  • You have picked the correct form (School / UG / PG) for your current level.
  • Your name matches across marksheet and identity proof.
  • The bank account is in your name or a parent's name, and the IFSC is the current one — many branches changed IFSCs after bank mergers.
  • Admission proof is from the current year (or an admission letter if fees are unpaid).
  • Every crisis claim has its matching document uploaded, and every file is clear and readable.
  • You have read the full Preview screen — after Submit, the form cannot be edited.

Where applications fail

The recurring failures are mundane: family income that reads differently on the certificate, the form and the bank record; a crisis described in the form with no matching document; marks below the 55% floor; diploma applicants who joined after Class 10 rather than Class 12; and blurry or wrong-year marksheets. A gap year, by itself, is not a bar — the programme confirms that a student who passed Class 12 in an earlier year and took admission later may apply, provided current-year admission proof exists. Apply well inside the window rather than on its final day; the shortlisting, verification and interview stages reward complete files, not fast ones.

Frequently asked questions

I have no family crisis. Is it pointless to apply?

No — crisis is a preference, not an eligibility condition. But understand the arithmetic: documented-crisis applicants rank ahead of you in a fixed-budget selection that picked about six and a half thousand scholars last year, so a complete, accurate file is your only edge.

Can I get ECSS for more than one year?

The programme states support can continue for multiple years for scholars who keep meeting the eligibility criteria — but each year must be re-established with fresh documents. It is not an automatic renewal.

I scored 54.8%. Will they round it up?

No. The 55% floor is strict; the programme's own FAQ rejects a 53.4% applicant, and competitors' guides confirm the same cut-off logic.

My diploma started after Class 10. Am I eligible?

No. Only diploma students who entered after completing Class 12 are eligible under ECSS.
