The eligibility rules, exactly as they stand
Every condition here is a hard condition; there is no merit list and no marks cut-off to compensate for missing one. First, the scholarship is for girl students only. Second — and this is the condition most often misunderstood — you must have passed both Class 10 and Class 12 as a regular student from a government school or government college. One private-school board examination in either class breaks the chain. Third, that government schooling must have been in one of the 21 eligible States and Union Territories: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi (NCT), Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Andhra Pradesh and Delhi are covered in this cycle; if your state is not on that list, you are not eligible this year, wherever you now study.
Fourth, you must have taken admission in 2026–27 in the first year of a recognised undergraduate degree or diploma course of two to five years' duration, as a regular student, at a government institution or a credible, bona fide private college or university anywhere in India. Note the asymmetry, because it is deliberate: your schooling must be government and in a listed state, but your college can be private and can be anywhere in the country. Fifth, it must be your first undergraduate degree or diploma. Students already in their second year or beyond cannot enter as fresh applicants, distance-learning admissions do not count, and students admitted to Azim Premji University itself are not eligible. There is no income ceiling published for this scholarship and no application fee at any stage — the Foundation states that explicitly, which is worth remembering if anyone asks you for money to "process" your form.
Applying in Round 2, step by step
Applications are online only, through the scholarship portal on azimpremjifoundation.org. Register as a new applicant for the 2026 cohort with a mobile number that belongs to you and will stay active — the OTP for verification and every later communication come to it. Create your login credentials, then complete the application form with your personal details, your Class 10 and Class 12 particulars, and the details of the college and course you have actually joined. Upload the documents the form asks for: Aadhaar, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, proof of admission to the first year of your course, and your bank account details — the account should be active and preferably Aadhaar-linked, since payment difficulties almost always trace back to a dormant or mismatched account. Add a recent passport-size photograph and keep your email ID current. Review everything against your marksheets before final submission; the name and date of birth on the application must match your board records letter for letter, because verification is done against those records.
January's window is three weeks, and it will not feel long if your certificates are sitting in a school office over the winter break. Use October, November and December to assemble the file: collect both marksheets, your admission proof or college ID, and a cancelled cheque or passbook copy, and scan them clearly. If there is an error in your Class 12 marksheet — a spelling, a date — the time to pursue its correction with your board is now, not in the second week of January.
The mistakes this scholarship sees are predictable. Girls apply who did Class 12 from a private school after a government Class 10, and are screened out — both examinations must be government. Students in the first year of a second degree apply, and are screened out. Applicants enter a parent's bank account, and payment fails. And each cycle, some students pay an intermediary for a free application. The Foundation charges nothing, at no stage, to anyone. If you missed Round 1, nothing about your chances is damaged — Round 2 is a full round, not a leftover list. Prepare the documents now, register when the window opens on 10 January 2027, and submit well before 31 January rather than on the evening it closes.
