Who can apply

  • You are entering the first year of a full-time undergraduate professional programme in 2026–27. The eligible fields published for this cycle are Engineering & Technology (B.Tech/B.E.), Medicine (MBBS), Dentistry (BDS), Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing), Pharmacy (B.Pharm/Pharm.D), Architecture (B.Arch) and Veterinary Science (BVSc & AH).
  • You scored at least 80% marks, or the equivalent CGPA, in your Class 12 board examination.
  • Your annual family income from all sources does not exceed ₹12,00,000.
  • You have not taken a drop or gap year after Class 12. This is absolute: a repeater with 95% is ineligible, and no preference category overrides it.
  • Where your programme has an entrance route, your application carries your entrance result (the document list asks for the JEE/NEET result letter as applicable).

The foundation weighs four things together — academic achievement, financial need, family circumstances, and the authenticity of the application. Two preferences are part of the published design: first-generation college students and academically meritorious female students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds may be preferred in selection, with a share of awards directed to talented women. Students from agricultural families are explicitly welcome, but they must declare the family's land holdings and attach the supporting land documents — hiding farmland while pleading poverty is precisely the authenticity failure this programme screens for.

What you receive, and what keeping it requires

The award is up to ₹50,000 per year, renewable for the duration of the degree up to four academic years — a maximum total of ₹2 lakh for a scholar who holds it throughout. "Renewable" is a contract, not a slogan. To keep the scholarship a scholar must:

  • remain enrolled full-time in the eligible programme;
  • carry no academic backlogs and maintain satisfactory academic performance;
  • complete the Scholarship Renewal Form each year and supply the academic records and documents SDEF asks for; and
  • inform SDEF of any change in academic or financial circumstances.

The scholarship can be discontinued mid-degree if a scholar stops meeting these conditions or if information in the application turns out to be false or misleading. Read that twice before you are tempted to round an income figure downward.

How to apply

  • Go to the foundation's 2026–27 page: swamidayanand.org/india-scholarships-2026-27, and read the details, eligibility and FAQ sections before touching the form.
  • Download the SDEF Scholar Pledge, print it, sign it and scan it. The pledge is a required upload for fresh and renewal applicants alike — have the signed scan ready before you start, not after.
  • Scan all required documents (below) clearly, each within the size limit of its upload field.
  • Open Apply — Fresh Applicants and work through the form's sections in order: eligibility, personal details, college details, academics, academic achievements, family details, income and occupation, financial information, document upload, and the declaration. Save as you go.
  • Submit well before 31 October 2026. Applications are accepted online only — postal and emailed applications are not accepted — and the foundation's handbook lists no application fee.

Documents you will need

A recent photograph; your admission letter or college ID card; Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets/certificates; your JEE/NEET result letter where applicable; fee receipts; family income proof (salary certificate, salary slip, income-tax return, or pension copy, as fits the family's situation); a utility bill (electricity or water) as address/household evidence; and agricultural land documents if your parents are farmers. Plus the signed SDEF Scholar Pledge described above — twelve uploads in all on the current form.

Where applications fail

The gap-year rule eliminates more strong applicants than any other line in this page — check it before anything else. Then: Class 12 at 79.6% against an 80% floor; income declared in the form that the salary slips and returns do not support; farming families omitting land documents; an unsigned or unscanned pledge discovered missing at the upload stage on the last evening; and second-year students applying as fresh applicants, which the first-year-only design forbids. The timeline after the deadline is short — notifications in mid-November, funding from January — so a complete, consistent file submitted in October is worth more than a brilliant one assembled on the 31st.
